The Birth of “The Giving Heart”

In the beginning God had placed in us a giving heart. As far back as we can remember, we were always giving food, clothing, material things, our time, etc. The jobs we had opened the doors to receive many things and in turn, we would use those things to help others. We started working in our church’s clothing ministry, then we began a clothing ministry out of our home. We then moved to our own storage building, we quickly outgrew that building and moved into our present building. We then were in need of clothing racks. We found a seller and they wanted $25 for each rack. When we shared with her about our ministry and what we were doing, God touched her heart – she then proceeded to sell us all the racks for only $20. She also gave us 68 pairs of new dance shoes, a box of new hair barettes, decorations and shelves. I told a friend about what God had done for us. Not long after telling my friend, a lady came into her shop and asked for shoes for some special needs Girl Scouts to use in a pageant. My friend called me and told me what sizes the Girl Scouts needed and I began to put them together. The Girl Scouts were thrilled and wanted to put the ministry’s name in the program but, God hadn’t given us a name yet. We had been praying about our name but, we had not gotten the answer yet. When my husband came home, I asked him about the name of our ministry. He then said it should be called “The Giving Heart” because we give from our hearts. God gave me the vision of two hands holding a heart with a crown. We went to church and I told the pastor’s wife that God had given us the name for our ministry. When she heard the name, she put her hands up and pushed back her hair from her ears because her ears became hot. The earrings she was wearing were the symbol that God had shown me in the vision. Later God moved her to give the earrings to me along with a beautiful letter. And so “The Giving Heart” was born – and we continue to grow.
